Etymology
Iṣdār is the verbal noun (maṣdar) of the Form IV verb aṣdara, itself built on the triliteral root ṣ-d-r, which carries the sense of emanating or coming forth from a source. Form IV adds a causative meaning, so aṣdara means to cause something to come forth, hence to issue or publish. The noun iṣdār therefore denotes the act of issuing, whether a law, a currency, a passport, or, in modern usage, a software version or book edition.
