Etymology
إمكانية comes from the root م ك ن, which carries the sense of power, capacity, and being able to do something. The form IV verb أمكن (amkana) means 'to be possible' or 'to enable', and its verbal noun إمكان (imkān) means 'possibility'. Adding the abstract-noun suffix -يّة (-iyya, similar to English '-ity') gives إمكانية, 'possibility' or 'feasibility'. This kind of suffixation is common in Modern Standard Arabic for turning verbal nouns into abstract nouns.
