Etymology
تَبَنِّي is the verbal noun of the Form V verb تَبَنَّى, built on the root ب-ن-ي. That same root gives ابن (ibn), the word for son. To تبنى someone was, literally, to take him as a son, and the sense later widened to cover adopting a policy, an idea, or a cause. This is a native Semitic root, not an Indo-European one, so no PIE root applies.
