Etymology
تَحَسُّب is the Form V verbal noun (masdar) of the verb تَحَسَّبَ, built on the Semitic root ح-س-ب, whose core sense is reckoning or calculating. Form V adds a reflexive, self-directed nuance to the causative Form II, so تَحَسَّبَ came to mean acting to guard oneself by mentally reckoning risks in advance. The same root gives Arabic حَسِبَ (to think, to reckon) and حِساب (account, calculation).
