Etymology

Tawjīh is the Form II verbal noun of the triliteral root w-j-h, which also gives wajh, meaning face. The verb wajjaha means to turn something toward a direction or to direct it, and tawjīh is the noun for that act. The word entered modern administrative and educational Arabic to mean guidance, direction, or an official directive.
