Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root w-ṣ-l, meaning to arrive or connect. The Form II verb waṣṣala turns this into a causative, to make someone arrive, that is, to deliver or drop off. Tawṣīla is a noun-of-instance built on the tafʿīla pattern of that verb, so it names one single act of dropping someone off: a ride. This pattern is common in spoken Egyptian and Levantine Arabic rather than formal writing.
