Etymology
تِجارَة is the verbal noun (masdar) of the Form I verb تَجَرَ (tajara), "to trade," built on the triliteral root ت-ج-ر. The same root gives تاجِر (tājir), "merchant." The root is old and shared across Semitic languages with the core sense of buying and selling for profit.
