Etymology
جُلُوس is the verbal noun of the verb جَلَسَ, to sit. It derives from the triliteral Semitic root ج-ل-س (j-l-s), whose core sense is sitting or being seated. The noun follows the فُعُول pattern that Arabic often uses for verbal nouns of state or motion. By extension it also names a ruler taking his seat on the throne, hence accession.
