Etymology
جودة is the verbal noun of the root ج-و-د (j-w-d), which underlies the verb جاد يجود, meaning to be good, excellent, or generous. The taa marbuta ending turns the root's core sense into an abstract noun: the state or degree of being good. Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Proto-Indo-European ancestry.
