Etymology

بَشَرَة comes from the triliteral Semitic root ب ش ر, which centers on the idea of a visible outer surface. From this root Arabic also gets بَشَر, meaning humankind, since people are marked out by their bare, visible skin rather than fur or scales. The same root gives بِشَارَة, good news, from the idea of joy showing openly on the face. Arabic is a Semitic language, so no Proto-Indo-European root applies here.
