Etymology
Karīm comes from the Semitic root k-r-m, which carries the sense of nobility and generosity across Semitic languages. Arabic built the word on the pattern fa'īl, which marks an inherent, lasting quality rather than a one-time action. The same root gives Arabic karam (generosity) and akrama (to honor). Related Semitic languages use the same three letters for the word vineyard, which some scholars link to the idea of abundance and giving from one's harvest.
