Etymology
حادّ is the active participle of the verb حَدَّ, built on the triliteral root ح-د-د. The root carries the idea of an edge, a limit, and by extension sharpness or intensity. The same root gives words for borders and for defining a boundary. The sense moved from a physical cutting edge to sharpness of mind, feeling, and speech.
