Etymology
The verb خَلَص comes from the Semitic root خ-ل-ص (kh-l-ṣ), whose core sense is purity, extraction, and release. Classical Arabic used it for being saved or set free from danger, and for something becoming pure or clear. Everyday spoken Arabic across the Middle East narrowed this to the plain sense of finishing or running out, so people say خلص constantly to mean simply done.
