Etymology

مُتَحَرِّك comes from the Semitic root ح-ر-ك (ḥ-r-k), which carries the sense of movement or motion. It is the active participle of the Form V verb تَحَرَّكَ (taḥarraka), 'to move oneself, to stir'. The مُ- prefix marks the participle, and the doubled middle radical marks the Form V pattern. This root is native to Arabic and not traced to Proto-Indo-European.
