Etymology
دَرْب comes from the Arabic triliteral root د ر ب (d-r-b), the same root behind تدريب, training, and مدرب, coach. The link is concrete: walking a path over and over builds skill, so the root spans both the physical track and the practice that follows it. The word takes the simple فَعْل pattern common for plain concrete nouns. In many dialects, including Egyptian, it narrowed to mean a narrow lane or alley inside a town, as opposed to a wide street.
