Etymology
دَلّ comes from the Arabic triliteral root د-ل-ل, a geminate root whose second and third consonants are identical. Classical dictionaries tie the root to the physical act of guiding, such as leading someone by the hand, and the sense later extended to intellectual and evidentiary guidance: pointing, indicating, and proving. Because Arabic is a Semitic language, it has no Indo-European ancestor, so no PIE root applies here.
