Etymology
مَقْهَى is built from the Semitic root ق-ه-و, the same root behind قَهْوَة (coffee). The م- prefix turns the root into a noun of place, so the word literally means 'the place of coffee.' This root has no Indo-European ancestor: it is native Arabic, though the related word qahwa later traveled into Turkish, Italian, and English as 'coffee.'
