Etymology
Qahwa is the Arabic source of the word for coffee in most European languages. In classical Arabic it first named a kind of wine, and the sense later shifted to the drink brewed from roasted beans. The word passed into Turkish as kahve, then into Italian as caffè and English as coffee. Its Semitic root has no Indo-European source.
