Etymology
The root q-l-q carries the idea of being unsteady or restless. The verb قَلِقَ first described a thing that would not stay fixed, something loose that kept shifting. From that physical sense it grew to mean mental unease and worry. Arabic is a Semitic language and has no Proto-Indo-European root.
