Etymology

The verb comes from the triliteral root ن-ق-ذ (n-q-dh), which carries the sense of escaping or being delivered from danger. The Form I verb نَقِذَ means to be saved or to slip free. The Form IV أَنْقَذَ adds a causative sense, to make someone escape, and so means to rescue. Arabic is a Semitic language and has no Proto-Indo-European root.
