Etymology
رُمَّة comes from the Arabic root ر-م-م, whose base verb رَمَّ means to mend, patch, or tie together something broken. From this root came a noun for a single worn, tied-together piece of rope, since old rope was often repaired rather than discarded. The word later gave rise to the common idiom بِرُمَّته, 'complete with its rope,' meaning 'as a whole,' from the old practice of selling an animal along with its lead-rope.
