Etymology
صُحُفِيّ comes from the Arabic root ص-ح-ف, the same root behind صحيفة (newspaper, page) and صحافة (journalism, the press). It is formed by adding the nisba suffix -iyy to صُحُف, the plural of صحيفة, so it literally marks someone tied to newspaper pages. Arabic uses this same suffix to turn nouns into professional or national labels, as in مصري (Egyptian) or تاريخي (historical). The root is Semitic, not Indo-European, so there is no PIE root behind it.
