غَيْمَة comes from the Arabic root غ-ي-م (gh-y-m), which covers cloud cover and overcast weather. The base word غَيْم is a collective noun for clouds in general. Adding the feminine ending ة turns it into a singulative, meaning one individual cloud, the same pattern seen in تَمْر (dates) versus تَمْرَة (a single date). This is a native Semitic root, not an Indo-European one, so no PIE reconstruction applies.
