Etymology
Ghumūḍ is the verbal noun of the Arabic root gh-m-ḍ, whose core sense is to close or shut, as when closing the eyes. From that physical sense of closing came the abstract sense of something shut off from understanding, hence obscure or unclear. The related adjective ghāmiḍ, meaning obscure or mysterious, comes from the same root.
