Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root q-b-l, whose core sense is to be in front of, to face, and so to receive. From this root Arabic forms the verb قَبِلَ, to accept, and the verbal noun قُبُول, the act of accepting. The same root gives Hebrew its verb for receiving and the noun Kabbalah, the received tradition.
