Etymology
Qishr comes from the Semitic root q-sh-r (ق-ش-ر), which carries the core sense of peeling, scraping, or stripping an outer layer away. The noun قِشْر follows the fiʿl pattern and names the result of that action: the covering itself, whether it is fruit skin, an eggshell, or tree bark. The same root gives Arabic its everyday verb for peeling, qashara.
