Etymology
كَشَف comes from the Semitic triconsonantal root k-sh-f, which carries the sense of stripping off a cover and laying something bare. From the concrete act of pulling away a veil or cloth, the verb widened to mean revealing, disclosing, and detecting. The same root yields كَشْف (disclosure), مَكْشوف (exposed), and the Form VIII verb اِكْتَشَفَ (to discover).
