ماكِياج is a direct borrowing from French maquillage, meaning makeup or the act of applying it. Arabic took the word whole in the twentieth century as Western cosmetics and film culture spread through the region. It did not enter through a native Arabic root, so it behaves as a fixed foreign noun rather than a derived form. The French word itself has a disputed origin, so no deeper root is claimed here.
