Etymology
مبروك is the passive participle of the verb بَرَكَ, built on the root ب-ر-ك, the same root behind بركة (blessing) and بارك (to bless). It literally means 'blessed' or 'endowed with baraka'. Because wishing someone well traditionally means invoking a blessing on them, مبروك became the everyday word for 'congratulations' across the Arab world.
