جَنَّ (janna)to cover, conceal; to drive mad
مَجْنُونَة (majnūnah)madwoman

Etymology

مَجْنُون is the passive participle of the verb جَنَّ, meaning to cover or conceal. It literally means one covered or possessed by jinn, from the old belief that madness came from spirit possession. The same Semitic root ج-ن-ن gives جِنّ, the hidden spirits, and جَنَّة, the enclosed garden of paradise.
