مَشْرُوعlawful, legitimateEtymology
Arabic, the passive participle of the verb شَرَعَ (sharaʿa), 'to begin' and 'to lay down law.' The root ش-ر-ع carries the idea of opening a way, and it also gives شَرِيعَة, the sacred law, and شَارِع, a street. As an adjective مَشْرُوع means 'lawful' or 'legitimate.' As a noun it came to mean a thing undertaken, hence the modern sense 'project.'
