Etymology
مَنْزِل comes from the Semitic root n-z-l, meaning to descend or alight. With the place prefix ma-, it names the spot where a traveler gets down and stays, so a stopping place came to mean a dwelling. The same root gives the verb nazala, he came down, and the noun manzila, rank or standing. The word is Semitic, not Indo-European, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root.
