Etymology

مُحْرَج is the passive participle of the Form IV verb أَحْرَجَ, "to corner someone" or "to put someone in a tight spot." Both trace to the root ح ر ج, which carries the core sense of tightness, constriction, and difficulty. A مُحْرَج person is, literally, someone who has been squeezed into a narrow position, and so feels embarrassed.
