Etymology
جَدَّد comes from the triliteral Semitic root ج-د-د, which carries the sense of newness. The base adjective جديد means new. جَدَّد is built on Form II of the Arabic verb system, which doubles the middle root letter to turn a simple quality into a causative action. So the root idea of newness becomes an act of making something new, hence to renew.
