Etymology
مُضِيّ is the verbal noun (maṣdar) of the Arabic verb مضى, meaning to go by, pass, or proceed, from the triliteral Semitic root m-ḍ-y. The root is native to Arabic and has no Indo-European origin, so it carries no PIE root. Its final weak radical y causes the doubling seen in the maṣdar form, turning the expected fuʿūl pattern into muḍiyy.
