Etymology
كَرَّر comes from the triliteral Semitic root ك ر ر (k-r-r), whose plain verb كَرَّ means "to return" or "to charge back." Doubling the middle letter to form كَرَّرَ, the Form II pattern, intensifies this into making something come back again and again, hence "to repeat." The same root gives تَكْرَار, "repetition," and مُكَرَّر, which can mean "repeated" or, in industrial use, "refined," since refining sugar or oil involves repeated distillation. As a Semitic root, it has no Indo-European ancestor.
