مُقْبِل is the active participle of the Form IV verb أَقْبَلَ, meaning to come forward or advance. Both derive from the triliteral root ق-ب-ل, which carries the sense of front, facing, and acceptance. The same root yields قَبْلَ ('before'), اِسْتَقْبَلَ ('to receive, to face'), and مُسْتَقْبَل ('future'). In time expressions مُقْبِل marks what is approaching, so the coming week is the week that advances toward us.
