Etymology
مُناسِب is the active participle of the form III verb ناسَبَ, 'to suit' or 'to correspond.' Both come from the triliteral root ن-س-ب, which carries the idea of relation, proportion, and lineage. The same root gives نِسبة, 'ratio,' and نَسَب, 'kinship.' What is munāsib is, in essence, what stands in the right proportion to something else.
