Etymology
نَبْض is the masdar, or verbal noun, of the Form I verb نَبَضَ (nabaḍa), meaning to pulsate or throb. The root ن-ب-ض is native Semitic and carries the core sense of rhythmic beating or movement. Arabic reused the same root for the mechanical spring (نَابِض), since a spring flexes back and forth in a similar rhythmic way.
