Etymology
نَدّ comes from the Arabic triliteral root ن-د-د, a doubled (geminate) root in which the second and third consonants merge under a shadda. Classical lexicons such as Lisan al-Arab describe its core sense as an animal, especially a camel, breaking loose from its handler and running off in fright. From that concrete image, usage extended to abstract flight: a word that slips out unbidden, or a fact that escapes someone's attention.
