Etymology

Naṭaqa comes from the native Semitic triliteral root ن-ط-ق, meaning to produce articulate speech. Classical Arabic grammarians and philosophers built a whole vocabulary on it: nuṭq for speech itself, and manṭiq, literally the faculty of speech, which became the Arabic word for logic. The root has no established cognate outside Arabic that can be stated with confidence.
