Etymology
نَقِيّ comes from the Semitic root n-q-y/w, tied to the idea of being free of dirt or defect. Arabic built a full family of words on this root: the noun نقاء (purity), the verb نقّى (to purify or filter), and the adjective itself on the faʿīl pattern, which marks an inherent, lasting quality rather than a temporary state. This is not an Indo-European word, so no PIE root applies.
