Etymology
نَوَى comes from the Semitic root n-w-y, which carries the sense of an inner core or aim. The same root gives نِيَّة, the word for intention, and نَوَاة, the pit at the center of a date. To intend, in this picture, is to fix the kernel of one's purpose on a goal.
