Etymology
وارِد is the active participle of the verb وَرَدَ (warada), "to arrive, to come to a water source." The root و-ر-د originally described travelers or animals reaching a well or river, and it later broadened to mean anything that arrives, occurs, or shows up in a text. From that base sense, Arabic developed the everyday meaning "possible" or "on the table," since a plausible outcome is one that could still arrive.
