Etymology

وَقْت derives from the Semitic triliteral root و-ق-ت (w-q-t), which conveys the notion of an appointed or allotted span. From the same root spring مِيقَات (an appointed time or place) and تَوْقِيت (timing, timekeeping). It is the ordinary Arabic word for 'time' in the sense of duration, a moment, or an occasion.
