Etymology
Άνετος comes from Ancient Greek ἄνετος, a verbal adjective of ἀνίημι, meaning to release or let go. That verb combines the prefix ἀνά, meaning up or back, with ἵημι, meaning to send or throw. Something ἄνετος was literally something let loose or slackened, and the sense drifted from physical release to ease and comfort, the way an untied rope hangs slack rather than taut.
