Etymology
Ακοή comes from ancient Greek ἀκοή, an abstract noun tied to the verb ἀκούω, "to hear." The word denoted both the physical sense of hearing and, in older usage, a report or piece of news that reaches the ear. The deeper origin of ἀκούω is not settled among etymologists, and no secure Indo-European root has been established for it.
