Etymology
Αλλεργικός is the adjective built from αλλεργία, "allergy." That noun is a 20th-century medical coinage, made in German as "Allergie" by the Austrian pediatrician Clemens von Pirquet in 1906, from the Greek elements ἄλλος ("other") and ἔργον ("work, reaction"). Greek later borrowed the term back and added its own adjectival suffix -ικός to form αλλεργικός. So the word looks ancient but is a modern scientific construction on old Greek parts.
