Etymology

Ανάπαυση is built from the prefix ανα- and παύση, a noun formed from the verb παύω, meaning to stop or cease. The verb παύω has no securely established origin further back; Greek etymologists treat it as uncertain, possibly a word from before Greek borrowed it into the language. So the trail stops at Ancient Greek and does not extend to a reconstructed root.
