Αυγή comes from Ancient Greek αὐγή, meaning the light of dawn or a radiant gleam. Its origin before Ancient Greek is not settled, so no secure root can be given further back. The word already carried a poetic sense of first light breaking through darkness in Homer, and modern Greek keeps that sense largely intact.
